A new Wolf-Rayet star in Cygnus⋆
We report the discovery of a new Wolf-Rayet star in the direction of Cygnus. The star is strongly reddened but quite bright in the infrared, with J = 9.22, H = 8.08 and KS = 7.09 (2MASS). On the basis of its H + K spectrum, we have classified WR 142a a WC8 star. We have estimated its properties using as a reference those of other WC8 stars in the solar neighbourhood as well as those of WR 135, ...
متن کاملStar Formation and Young Clusters in Cygnus
The Great Cygnus Rift harbors numerous very active regions of current or recent star formation. In this part of the sky we look down a spiral arm, so regions from only a few hundred pc to several kpc are superposed. The North America and Pelican nebulae, parts of a single giant HII region, are the best known of the Cygnus regions of star formation and are located at a distance of only about 600...
متن کاملA Comparative Analysis of Genetic Diversity and Structure of Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus): A New Considerable Established Population in Iran
New wintering populations of Whooper Swan have been recently reported from west Asia, a lack of information about the population and its origin. The understanding the genetic structure and connectivity are crucial for determining strategies of management for its conservation programs. The samples were collected from two populations in northern Iran, Finland, Sweden, and Iceland, where with larg...
متن کاملNew very massive stars in Cygnus OB2
Context. The compact association Cygnus OB2 is known to contain a large population of massive stars, but its total mass is currently a matter of debate. While recent surveys have uncovered large numbers of OB stars in the area around Cyg OB2, detailed study of the optically brightest among them suggests that most are not part of the association. Aims. We observed an additional sample of optical...
متن کاملLuminous Red Variable Star
We report photometry and spectroscopy of the evolution of Nova Sagittarii 1994 #1 (V4332 Sagittarii) during outburst. We compare the photometric and spectral evolution of this outburst to known classes of outbursts – including classical novae and outbursts occurring on symbiotic stars – and find this object does not conform to any known class of outburst. The closest match to the behavior of th...
